By this stage, I hope I have convinced you to purchase your Bernese Mountain Dog puppy from an ethical breeder. Any breeder that fits this title will ask you many questions to try to decide whether you are in a position to make a 7-10 year commitment to a large breed of dog. Of course, they should also welcome any questions that you have so that the "interview" is not one-sided. Bernese Mountain Dogs are being exploited in many countries, including Ireland, and breeders try to sift through those with a vested interest in the breed by asking questions and possibly doing home-checks. You will need to be open to this in order to have a puppy placed with you. In return the breeder should be more than willing to have you come and view their dogs at their home. It may even be an idea to do this before the pups are born as breeders are understandably wary about who they let near very young pups. When the pups are a bit older, you should be able to see them as well as the mother. They should be friendly and in good physical condition.

Here are some questions that we ask would-be owners of our future puppies:-

We believe that the best food to feed animals is a natural species-appropriate diet. For dogs, this would consist of feeding raw, meaty bones and occasional offal. (Please see the feeding page.) We also believe vaccines cause irreparable damage to whatever animal they are given. (Please see vaccine page.) We believe homeopathy is the best way to cure many diseases, both acute and chronic. Its important to also have a good, working relationship with a regular vet in case of an emergency.

We provide our potential puppy owners with plenty of information on all these subjects. We realise that changing the way we may have been used to raising a dog is a big step for anyone and will be there to support the owners for the puppy's lifetime. We want to see our pup's live the longest, fullest life possible. We believe the only way to attain this is by raising the dog in a natural way.
